You should buy a congo african grey only if you are experienced with birds.
You must know how to handle them and know how to take care of them.
African greys are not good with an active and noisy household where children and other animals run around. They are naturely shy so they will be very timid in such environment. if your child wants an african grey and she is only a 12 years old and does not know mucabout bird, You should buy a small bird for her, not an african grey.
African greys are social creatures so they love to interact with all your family member which make them relaxed and happy.

No, we do not have a talking bird. We do have birds that can learn to talk. African greys are one of the best known potential talking bird. The best talking is the bird that raise with love and with an informed owner.
Wean means the bird can eat by itself. There no longer need to handfeed. However, you should continue to give special treats for your birds every day as wild african greys still feed their youngs many months after they fully flegded.
Abundant weaned means the bird being weaned at its own pace. Usually it takes a congo grey about 4 to 5 months to be fully weaned. However, some individual birds may take longer or shorter time to wean.
Abundant weaned is opposite with forced weaned when a breeder weans their birds by starving them or forces them to eat by itself as soon as possible. When birds are very hungry, they will learn to eat very quick. But they will cry all day long for food and bird experts all believe that such birds grow up with potential behavior problems.
We usually see customers surprise that how long they have to wait for a bird to wean. A proper weaned bird is the best bird you can own. When our babies are fully weaned, We still wait about two more weeks to make sure the birds really are ok on its own before going to a new home.
We also let our birds totally weaned and fledged before we trim their primary feathers. We trim one primary feather from each wing at a time and it takes us a week to finish trim them. We believe doing that contribute to a well-balance in a bird's emotional and physical health.
Baby african greys always have black eyes. Their eyes change to slight yellow color around 6 months and more yellow when it is about 1 year.
African grey starts molting( replace its new feathers) about 6 months to 1 year old. Everyday they clean and remove dander and small feathers. Real molting happens slowly after one year.
Not really, african grey has best talking ability but not all greys talk. Some individual greys learn all kinds of sound except talking. The more important for you is to create a relaxed and loving atsmosphere for your bird. At your bird feels comfortable, it will talk.
You should feed your bird with balanced diets consisting with Higgins parrot mixed seeds, Zupreem pellets, Pretty Bird African Grey, Roudybush.. plus fruits and veggies.
Frozen veggies are convenient but make sure there are no salt or onions in it. Remember always discard all the veggies & fruits after one hour to prevent harmful bacteria.
Trimming primary feathers are one of the the best things you can do for your bird. At Parrot Kingdom shop, people called us almost every week to report their birds lost. Do not make it happen to you, seemly bring your bird to your vet or a reputable pet shop to trim nails and primary feathers. Please do not trim it yourself, you may damage the blood feathers or trim deep to the blood vessels of their nails that can cause bleeding, severely even can kill a bird.
Only primary feathers should be trimmed, trimming not only preventing your bird to fly away but also to running fan, hitting glass windows... or walls.
African grey can live between 50 to 80 years so please think carefully before buying a grey. It is really a real commitment
You should have a cage at least 36"x24"x64" with 40" inside height. The large the cage is, the better for the bird.
Always set up the cage close to your family activities but give space so your bird can see you first before you approach. Always call her name first to let her know you are coming. All your family members have to do the same.
If possible, set up the playgym next to her cage so she is free to go back and forth to play. always give her plenty of food and fresh, clean water.
give her at least three types of toys, perches and food choice.
Unlike cats or dogs need all kinds of required shots, birds do not need to. However, some breeders do vacinate their birds with polyoma vacine. Macaws, eclectus and indian ringnecks are very susceptable to polyoma virus so they need shots
African greys are not, so we do not give them any shots.
No, each bird has to have its own cage unless you raise the same specie together as baby otherwise most birds will attack other birds.
Under your supervision, some birds can play in the same playgym.
Few people claim having allergic from a bird so make sure your family and you go to a local bird shop to see you are allergic or not.
African grey does have a lot of white dander. It can be very messy.
Remember african greys are social animals. They need your family and you as a flock member to be happy. Always let your whole family takes care of the bird that way your bird is easy going and hangout with everyone.
It is best to let your grey knows that you are there for here. Spend 15 minutes quality time with her, then let her back to her playgym or a table that she is allowed to.
Set rule, don't let her free to roam your house but buy extra cages and playgyms so she has spacious place for herself.
Ideally we should have two baby greys raising at a same time. Many years sell birds at our shop, we rarely have a customer that want two babies at same species.
Definitely having two greys at a same time make them much more playful and happier. We raised both our pet greys so we know.
