Customer Bird Page

This page is for our customers to post their bird pictures, stories

and anything they like.   It would be nice that we hear how the baby

doing at your home so we keep in touch. Thank you all.

We have been creating this website since june 2008 and for the first time since 2001 we shipped our first bird in October 2008. Here are what have learned.

Shipping can be very stressful for a bird because of uncertain changes from climate change, loud noise, rough handlings to totally new uncertain environments.  A bird does not know what is going on and she or he has to put in a carrier at 3 A.M then leave to the airport.

So make sure you are familiar with your airport, first check and know where the pick up location is and goes there 30 minutes before the plane arrives. Please bring the bird home before you open the carrier.

Let her/him go out by herself to climb up to her cage

Don't try to pick her up unless she is on a floor.

Make sure food, toys and fresh water  are there

    then let her rest

remember a bird spends 9 or more hours with terrible time, she must be very tired and scared.  A scare bird will bite to whoever approach him or her.

We recommend to leave her to rest in a couple days and have time to observe a new environment.  You can open her cage.  She goes out when she feels comfortable.

If you want to pick her up,  Please call her first before you appoach.

ALWAYS STAY CALM & GO SLOW.

Here you want a bird trust you first

so the slower you handle her, the better the bird is.

Feeding by hands with WARM rice or fruits like apples, grapes or parrot seeds

are PERFECT way to let a bird to trust you.

Remember ALWAYS let your bird know, call her first when you approach her

then slowly move your hand if you want to play with her or pick her up

Our Pet greys: Pengbo & Smart.  We ALWAYS use this method.  They trust us so after almost 6 years having them.  We never experience a bite from them.

  • Today December 30th 2008, Elsie & Roger just sent us an email and Sampson's photo

    " Hi Tony:
After reading all the nice comments of African Grey lovers on your web site I have to share our experience with Sampson with you:
We have bought him 3 years ago the end of December from you when he was 3 months old. He started talking at the early age of 6 months. His first words were: How are you? I thought I was 'hearing things'! But no. From there on his vocabulary increased daily. Now he is talking whole sentences, knows his age, phone number, says Happy Thanksgiving, Ho,Ho, Ho Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, whats for lunch: Corn, Broccoli, Beans, Apple, Grapes and Bread (birdie bread) We are having dinner: Chicken, Rice and Beans. He knows all the names of the family.

Our children are grown and on their own. Sampson fills the emptyness beautifully.
We take him to Dr. Backos yearly for a wellness check-up. Never a problem! He is happy and healthy. He has become part of our family. I couldn't picture our lifes without him.
Here is a picture of our pride and joy!

    "Hi Tony,
Lulu is doing great!  I am happy to report to  you.
She is really wonderful, a bit tentative still but as you advised me to do I am going very SLOWLY.  Go slowly has become my mantra and in a way that is healthy for me too as often it is my style to be a little pushy.  So I am "training Lulu" and she is without knowing it sort of training me too.  I have begun doing some reading in the literature about parrots and specifically about African Grey's and as I am sure you already know it is all very interesting and fascinating.  I am totally hooked.  : )
I am not happy to leave her alone in my apartment during the long day when I am in my office for work.  I am planning on getting another cage so that on days when I am away in the office I will bring her with me whenever that is possible.  What are your thoughts about that and do  you think it best for me to wait a few weeks so that she may first adjust to her home before I burden her with the need to adjust to my new office envirornment?  My office is not big time noisy in any way but there are people coming and going.  Your suggestions are appreciated.
Have you read Peppergerg's book "Alex and Me".  Truly fascinating work on communication and language between animal and man.

Hope this note keeps you up to date...I appreciate your continued interest and I applaud the obvious concern and sincerity that you bring to raising these very demanding  birds.

    Regards,
    Harold
PS:  Yes, I did receive the DNA results...thank you.

    "Hi Tony

I am happy to tell you that all is going really well; she is relaxed and seems to be accepting of her new home and we are both getting to know one another well.  So much to learn about how to be SLOW in my approach with her, so much to learn about her nutrition and diet and it's really been alot of fun so far.  I plan to keep you posted on our progress and I will also give you the most positive feed-back on your web site in the next few days.  Thank you very much for your calm assistance and good advice it has been greatly appreciated by me."

    "Hi Tony,
the boy got here well and quite  unaffected by such a big change.
eyes are alert, nose wide open and dry,and is currently inspecting his new cage.
Had some apple, and made sure that I know that he can bite.
    Thanks, Howard"
    "Hello Tony,
I just got back with the baby a little while ago - she seemed to enjoy the car ride and she was looking out the window the whole time checking everything out. I have her in her cage with fresh water and food, so she can settle down and get used to her new home and surroundings. She is very sweet and already let me give her a few head scratches. I just adore her already. Thank you so much for such a wonderful baby and you better believe that she will have a wonderful and loving home where she will be spoiled to death. I would love to keep in touch with you and let you know how she settles in and everything. Thank you once again, she is just perfect.

Mark & his congo african grey baby

" Hi Tony! It was fun talking with you guys yesterday! My baby is doing well. I'm going to try keeping him on the stand I got from you and not use the cage at all. I'm monitoring him by coming home from work every 2 hours to be sure he's ok and staying on the stand. So far so good. If I find that he is getting off the stand to much I'll have to put him in the cage while I'm at work. What do you think? Is it ok to leave him on the stand all the time rather than in cage? He hasnt made a sound yet but it will probably take a week or two before he's really comfortable in his new environment.

    Thanks, Mark"
